The Toronto Calcutta Foundation's (TCF) annual fundraising dinner was a blowout of last year's results by a minimum of ten thousand dollars. The event was held at Sagan Banquet Hall in Mississauga, and was a great success despite being in competition of a loud sweet sixteen party. TCF President Ted Culp said a few words before passing the microphone on to the MC for the evening, Monica Nathan. There were quite a few presenters, notably Miss World Canada Denise Garrido and Senator Vim Kochhar. Entertainment came in the form of Dr. Monidipa Bhattacharyya who serenaded the audience with some classics and Brendan Cassidy, a talented saxophone player and his accompanying band. Between the musical interludes Saswati Deb gave an update of TCF's productivity overseas, which no doubt contributed to the generosity of the attending. Other notable speakers were Sudipa Bhattacharyya, Sheila Arnopoulos, Doctors Darryl Reed & Ananya Reed-Mukherjee, Doctors Yoella Tipletsky & Fatima Uddin, and Raj Daryanani. Wrapping up the night's feature was TCF board member Uttam Chakrabarti, at long last allowing guests to feast upon the tantalizing food that had been laid out for them. All in all the evening was an exemplary success, and hopefully next year's fundraiser sees even more generosity from TCF's donors and supporters.
