What are TCF’s sources of funding?

Our main support comes from individuals who make donations to TCF and receive official tax receipts. We have also received small grants from Suncor and some other corporations.

How does TCF manage and distribute funds in Calcutta?

In Calcutta, a board of directors for the Toronto-Calcutta Association oversees our projects and directs a programme director and the office and clinic staff. TCF provides funding to cover the salaries of doctors, nursing aides, and staff, and all the operating expenses of the projects. The local director and board submit budgets and accounts to the international executive based in Toronto. Accounts are audited annually in Calcutta and Toronto.

Do members of the international executive or the Calcutta board receive salaries?

No, all board members are volunteers and members of the international executive who travel to Calcutta for liaison cover their own travel and living expenses.

Does TCF receive funds from government?

No. In the past, we have had a grant from the Canadian International Development Agency but currently all our work is funded by donors.

How much of my donation will reach the beneficiaries?

Almost all of our donation dollars goes to our work in Calcutta. Our administrative costs in Canada are minimal as all officers work as volunteers and individual members also contribute to administrative costs. Our administrative costs in Calcutta are about 3% of the total.

Does TCF have salaried staff in Canada or in India?

No, TCF does not have salaried staff in Canada. However, we have salaried staff including doctors, teachers, etc. to provide our services in Calcutta, India.

Can one donate Online?

Yes. Our website is completely secure and one can certainly donate on line.

Can one donate via the United Way campaign in Canada?

Yes, you can. Please write TCF information under non-designated section. Please put: The Toronto-Calcutta Foundation, BN 88824 3391 RR0001, 2 Leland Avenue, Toronto, ON M8Z 2X5.

How much donation one has to give before one can get an income tax receipt?

$10 dollar is a minimum amount for an income tax receipt.

Can one donate stocks, other tangible assets to TCF?

Yes, TCF has a broker who can facilitate the stock transfers. We issue tax receipts for the total value.

Can one donate funds for a medical/eye camp to TCF in his/her parents, relative and friend’s name?

Yes, one certainly can. TCF will hold the camp in that person’s name.

How does one volunteer for TCF?

Before volunteering is it possible to contact past volunteers to learn about their experiences of helping TCF in Calcutta and Toronto?
