2024 Annual Gala

As part of our annual efforts, in 2024, we continued our mission to raise much-needed funds for the Toronto-Calcutta Foundation’s (TCF) humanitarian work in West Bengal and Rajasthan. On June 15th, we hosted a cultural evening that brought together TCF’s patrons, donors, and supporters for an unforgettable event.
The evening featured a stunning classical performance by Mrs. Koyel Bhattacharya, accompanied by the talented Mr. Kunal Das on Tabla, both renowned artists from Kolkata, India. This performance was made possible through the generous sponsorship of Dr. Teesta Soman, who also graciously served as the MC for the latter part of the evening. The first half of the event was skillfully emceed by Papia Dutta, whose elegance and charm kept the audience entertained.
Manjurika Das also took the stage to present TCF’s accomplishments over the past year, using a compelling slide presentation that showcased the foundation’s impactful work. In addition to the main performances, local talents shared their skills, adding even more variety to the evening’s entertainment.
The event concluded with thunderous applause, reflecting the appreciation of all who attended. Thanks to the support of everyone involved, TCF successfully achieved its goal of raising funds to support its ongoing humanitarian work in both Toronto and Kolkata.

Excerpt’s from TCF’s media partner Desi News:

The Toronto-Calcutta Foundation’s 17th annual gala was a resounding success, with over 150 guests in attendance.
This year’s gala not only attracted a large audience but also raised more than $70,000 to support charitable initiatives both in Canada and India.
The evening began with a warm welcome from TCF’s secretary and emcee, Papia Dutta. Avantika Sanjay captivated the audience by performing the national anthem, followed by a beautiful rendition of English and Bollywood songs, showcasing her melodious talent.
Dr Sankar Dasgupta was the keynote speaker. Instead of delivering a speech, he presented the guests with his mission to combat childhood stunting in India by distributing jackfruit saplings. To accomplish this objective, TCF has distributed over 600,000 saplings across West Bengal to-date.
A highlight of the evening was a mesmerizing Bharatanatyam performance by Jayeeta Banerjee, an acclaimed dancer, and her students. Through their artistry, they paid tribute to those who lost their lives to injustice and gave voice to untold stories, beautifully embodying the event’s theme.
TCF Director Manjurika Das also presented insights into TCF’s ongoing activities, further engaging and inspiring the audience.
The evening concluded with a silent auction, door prizes and a delicious dinner.
